Specification of sports

Badminton is a racquet sport played by either two opposing players (singles) or two opposing pairs (doubles), who take positions on opposite halves of a rectangular court that is divided by a net. Players score points by striking a shuttlecock with their racquet so that it passes over the net and lands in their opponents' half of the court. A rally ends once the shuttlecock has struck the ground, and the shuttlecock may only be struck once by each side before it passes over the net.

The shuttlecock (or shuttle) is a feathered projectile whose unique aerodynamic properties cause it to fly differently from the balls used in most racquet sports; in particular, the feathers create much higher drag, causing the shuttlecock to decelerate more rapidly than a ball. Shuttlecocks have a much higher top speed, when compared to other racquet sports. Because shuttlecock flight is stubbornly affected by wind, competitive badminton is always played indoors. Badminton is also played outdoors as a casual recreational activity, often as a garden or beach game. Since 1992, badminton has been an Olympic sport with five events: men's and women's singles, men's and women's doubles, and mixed doubles, in which each pair is a man and a woman. At high levels of play, the sport demands excellent fitness: players require aerobic stamina, agility, strength, speed, and precision. It is also a technical sport, requiring good motor coordination and the development of sophisticated racquet movements.

The game of tennis has been around in different forms since the fifth century B.C. There have even been drawings of people hitting a ball back and forth found in ancient caves. Tennis is the second most played sport in the world. With its ease of play and universal appeal it is not hard to see why. To understand the game of tennis you have to start out at its roots. The true precursor to the game we play today originated in thirteenth century France. The game was started by monks playing in monastery courtyards. They would take sticks or their hands and bat a wooden ball back and forth. As the Middle Ages came to a close, "royal" or "real" tennis was adopted by the royalty. They called the new sport jea de paume, which means "the game of the palm."

Royal tennis was played indoors in narrow rooms where the object was to hit the ball through passages with the least amount of bounces. Gloves were eventually used to prevent blisters, which then gave way to the use of wooden bats. These bats, varying in size and shape, progressed into strung racquets. The royal families at that time coined the name tennis from the French word Tenez, which means "here you are," or "here, catch." To put a ball into play is called service. This was begun because the aristocrats that played thought it was too menial of a task to begin play and had their servants start the play instead. The game of tennis has been scored the same wince its beginnings. The points are awarded in sets of 15 for each successful win. Each player starts at zero, known as love. There are many stories for the origin of using love as zero, but the most widely accepted story is the French word oeuf, which means egg. The shape of the egg is symbolic of zero. The first won shot gives you 15; the next point awarded is 30. The word "forty," which comes after 30, is actually an abbre.

The Game of Basketball Many sports were invented to pass time. Basketball, the game, was one of the greatest to ever be invented. Basketball is truly an American game. It is competitive and fun . Dr. James A. Naismith was born in Canada but invented the game of basketball in the United States. He invented basketball by using a rectangular backboard that is 6feet wide and 4feet high. The court includes a free throw line that is 12feet long. A regulated court should be around 94feet long and 50feet wide. For all pro, college, and high school games the goal must at least be up 10feet high. If you get a foul you go to the free throw line to shoot foul shots.

It can either be a personal foul of a technical foul. Each overtime period is 5 minutes long. There are two officials, the referee and the umpire. In college and pro, there are usually 3 to 4 officials. Only high school and junior high have 2 officials. The basketball is usually made of leather and not rubber. The ball must be a sphere only. Any other ball would probably not be accepted. College and pro team's backboards must be made of glass. Most high schools are glass, but wooden backboards are permitted. "There are five players on a team a center, two forwards, and two guards." "Some prefer to wear "low-cut" basketball shoes today." "They also wear reversible jerseys." "In basketball, players do not come up against each other as roughly, as they do in football, so basketball shoes are about the only protective equipment they need!" Team members must alternate in the lane lines when shooting a foul shot. Most of the time, there are two scoreboards: one at each end, a home side and a visitor's side. The score goes in the middle of the scoreboard. The periods or what quarter it is goes on the bottom. If a student attends a rich school, they will have the names of the home team on one side and names of the opposing team on the other side.

Roller skating

Roller skating is the traveling on surfaces with roller skates. It is a form of recreational activity as well as a sport, and can also be a form of transportation. Skates generally come in three basic varieties: quad roller skates, inline skates or blades and tri-skates, though some have experimented with a single-wheeled "quintessence skate" or other variations on the basic skate design. In America, this hobby was most popular first between 1935 and the early 1960s and then in the 1970s, when polyurethane wheels were created and disco music oriented roller rinks were the rage and then again in the 1990s when in-line outdoor roller skating, thanks to the improvement made to inline roller skates in 1981 by Scott Olson, took hold.
